Lesson 2, part 2 Assignment - Bling Your Name
Using Text in Photoshop - Assignment 1
Text is very important in Advertising

STEP #1
Create a blank document (called a canvas)
in PhotoShop
Open PhotoShop & create a new canvas.
Hit Command (⌘) + N
Or choose File>New

Select inches
Make your canvas 11 x 8.5 inches
(The size of a piece of paper, on it's side!).
Change the Resolution to 150 pixels/inch.
Make sure the Background is WHITE.
STEP #2
Choose the Text Tool
Select the Horizontal Type Tool (or Text Tool) or hit the keyboard shortcut (t) …
… hold down the mouse button, click once, and then drag a box to type your name into.
Type your name or nickname into the text box.
STEP #3
Select Your Font
Scroll through the fonts and pick any one you want, as long as it's BIG AND BOLD!
Set the font size to make it BIG AND BOLD!
STEP #4
Rasterize the Text
Go to: Layer > Rasterize > Type
It's always a good idea to make a copy of your text layer BEFORE you rasterize it, in case something happens!
Rasterizing text turns the text into an image so it is no longer editable as text.
Last Step
Save Your Work
Go to File > Save As
Save your files to the desktop named as: PeriodNumber-LastName-FirstName-Lesson2-Part2 Assignment.psd
Make sure you have the ".psd" at the end or you will not be able to open your file next time.
Log into Moodle and upload your file from the desktop to Moodle under Lesson2 Part2 Assignment.

STEP #5
Default Colors
Hit the letter 'd' on the keyboard or click the
default icon to reset the default colors to
Black & White on the Color Palette.
STEP #6
Select the Text
Hold the Command (⌘) key and click the Layer Thumbnail
Notice how it selects everything in the layer.
STEP #7
The Filters
Go to: Filter > Render > Clouds









Next go to: Filter Gallery> Distort > Glass and experiment with the settings
Also, try the different Textures and Scaling as shown in the picture.

Kinda looks like diamonds …

STEP #8
Layer Styles
Click on the little Fx at the bottom of the Layers Palette …

Click on the word STROKE

Click on Fill Type: GRADIENT

… click on the Gradient Picker and select Copper … then click OK. Set the Stroke Size to whatever you want.

STEP #9
Bevel and Emboss
Also add Bevel and Emboss with the style Stroke Emboss

Lastly, go to: Image > Adjustments > Brightness/Contrast and see how that effects your text

Sparkle Brushes
CREATE ANOTHER NEW LAYER (remember, every item should be on its own layer) …
… click the Brush Tool or hit the keybord shortcut letter (B) …
Click the Brush Preset Picker
Click on the Seetings Wheels and click on Assorted Brushes
Hit APPEND

Find a brush that looks like a star shape

Try using it all over...
