Lesson 18- Flash: Draw Your Face in Flash

Step #1

You will first need to open FLASH

and create a new document, Action Script 3.0.

 

Open PHOTOBOOTH and snap a picture of yourself.

Drag it to the Desktop.

 

In FLASH, choose FILE>IMPORT>IMPORT TO STAGE.

 

Find your photo and import it. You might need to resize it.

 

If you need to resize it, click on your picture

and use the FREE TRANSFORM TOOL (or press Q).

 

There is a place in MOODLE to save your work.

Creat a NEW LAYER. Name the new layer "Drawing".

Lock the layer with your picture on it.

 

There are three options to Trace Your Face.

 

One: The Line Tool

Take a look at the video below...

 

Draw straight line, and then BEND them later!

Step #2

Two: The Pencil Tool

Take a look at the video below...

 

Make sure the PENCIL TOOL is set to SMOOTH.

After your have drawn your lines

you can pull them with the Selection Tool (the black arrow tool).

Three: The Brush Tool

Take a look at the video below...

 

Adjust the size of the BRUSH TOOL with the brackets (like in Photoshop).

After your have brushed your lines

you can pull them with the Selection Tool (the black arrow tool).

Creat a NEW LAYER. Name the new layer "Cartoon".

Lock the layer with your picture on it.

 

You can turn on and off your orginal picture to see how your drawing is going by clicking the "eyeball" on the picture layer. Take a look a the photos below.

Step #3

Fill in Closed Areas with the PAINT BUCKET TOOL.

Step #4

  • Choose colors similar to the real color.

  • Make sure "Close Large Gaps" is selected.

  • You may need to zoom in to close spaces. 

  • Check out the video below.

You might need to adjust the lines while zoomed in.

If you accidentally fill in an area that isn't supposed to be,

close the lines, then delete the color in the area.

If there is an area that is more than one color, you might use the gradient tool.

Once you fill an area with a gradient, you can adjust it!

See how below...

Continue filling in areas. Be especially careful around the eyes.

Adjust lines if needed.

ZOOM IN! It helps to make sure everything is OK.

 

When you are done, DOUBLE CLICK ON THE OUTLINES, and press DELETE!

Adjust the colored areas with the Selection (Black Arrow) Tool.

TAKE YOUR TIME AND DO A GOOD JOB!
